Body language | Indian Navy Sea Hawk IN157 | RAF Changi August 1962
The frustration was obvious as an Indian Navy officer in white uniform with the chief mechanic march around with the pilot to inspect the last of three visiting Indian Navy Sea Hawks, as the RAF refuel the aircraft. The 'body language' tells the story as IN157 was suffering with continuing starting problems and was stranded at Changi after calling in during practice firings at the China Rock Range. The Indian officer and NCO mechanic had been flown in by Alize to sort out the urgent problem as the 300 Sqdn aircraft was from INS Vikrant, then on it's first commission and the carrier heading rapidly into Singapore Naval Base. The 'Chiefy' mechanic was left with the reluctant jet but unfortunately IN157 was unable to be repaired at Changi and was transported back to Vikrant by sea on a lighter after being towed through the camp to a suitable jetty.
