The end of the 'big props' was near by mid 1962 and here 'Southern Mist', L-1049E Super Constellation VH-EAK of QANTAS starts up at Paya Lebar in June '62. No stranger to Singapore, for a short time 'EAK from 6th Mar 1960 operated on lease to Malayan Airways flying between Hong Kong, Singapore and Djakarta. By the 1st January 1963, the aircraft had a total time of 20,499 hours and on 15th January '63 is flew on its last Qantas service, a migrant charter. With further QANTAS purchases of 707's, it was sold to Boeing on 2nd Feb '63 and departed Sydney on delivery to Burbank under Capt J.G. Morton.
